Presenter's Biography:

Christie has a predominantly family and matrimonial practice. She has experience in all contested main suit, matrimonial finances and children-related matters, including: contested nullity and divorce petitions, ancillary relief and preliminary issues, jurisdictional and forum non conveniens challenges, maintenance pending suit and litigation funding, specific discovery, enforcement (attachment of income order), and custody, care and control.

Christie also has experience in urgent ex parte applications under s.17 MPPO and DCRVO, successfully obtaining urgent injunctive reliefs.

Christie's experience extends to public and private children-related matters, including: wardship, GMO applications, parental orders in surrogacy cases, and non-relative adoption. She also has experience in handling applications under the Inheritance (Provisions for Family and Dependants) Ordinance.

Christie's private client practice extends to the mental health realm. She is familiar and has experience in all aspects of the Mental Health Ordinance, notably having represented relatives in contested and uncontested Part II applications, challenged the systemic deficiencies of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Part IVA) and conditional discharge mechanism (Part III). She has also handled criminal matters with a mental health element, such as fitness to plead, and the insanity defence. In addition, she has advised clients on applying to the Court for appointment of a next friend and/or guardian ad litem under RHC O 90, if a party becomes mentally incapacitated after the proceedings have started.
