Presenter's Biography:

Nelson Miu received his BS degree from Yale University, and his LLB and LLM degrees from the University of London. He was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn in 1988. He joined Sir Oswald Cheung's Chambers in 1989 and has been in continuous practice in Hong Kong ever since. He specializes in contentious probate and trusts.

Nelson Miu has since 2008 been the External Examiner/External Academic Advisor for Property and Probate Practice for the PCLL courses of the 3 local universities. He was the Chairman of the Bar's Committee on Land, Trust and Probate (2018-2021).


Chantel called to the Bar in 2014 before she received LLB (First Class) in Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, MCL (HKU), MA (University of Bristol) and PCLL (HKU), PRC Legal Professional Qualification (2021). Chantel was a member of the Bar's Committee of Greater China Affairs (2017-2020), Land, Trust and Probate (2021-2022) and Mainland Affairs (since 2022).

She has been frequently instructed in a wide spectrum of commercial cases, PRC cross-border litigations, contentious probate and trusts litigations, land and property disputes, shareholders and directors disputes to represent the developers, charitable organization and the PRC state-owned enterprises.
 
Objective:

This seminar will give an overview on adverse possession in Hong Kong. The topics will include the development of the law of adverse possession, land in New Territories, evidence and procedures and particulars scenarios.
